Seriomac & Seriomould

A total of about 200 people works in Seriate, Serioplast HQ, divided into two main operational areas: Offices and Centralised/Global Services and Vertical Integrations

Offices and Centralised/Global Services: Sales, R&D, Quality Control, Purchasing, Administration and Finance, IT, Operations and Project Management departments.

Vertical Integrations: these are two fundamental units for the group, Seriomac and Seriomould. Seriomac is responsible for the design and assembly of the bottle moulding machines, while Seriomould produces the moulds used in our machines.

The technological heart behind our bottles

When we think about our bottles, we often don’t consider the complex process that brings them to us.
This is where Seriomac comes in, one of the cornerstones of our group and a true centre of innovation and production spanning almost 5,000 square metres. It’s at Seriomac that the machines are born that produce, transport, check, and package our bottles, starting from the foundations: the blowers.

From production to packaging: the complete cycle
At Seriomac, everything is designed and built in-house, ensuring total control over every phase. Only the larger electrical cabinets are generally commissioned externally.

The production process is as follows:

1

PRODUCTION:
Blowers are produced, particularly those with EBM (Extrusion Blow Moulding) technology, which are the basis for our bottles.

2

TRANSPORT
Tapes, conveyors, and diverters are produced to move the bottles along the line

3

CHECKING:
Machines like the LEAK TESTERS check for any visual or mechanical defects (holes, misshapen necks, etc.)

4

PACKAGING:
The bottles are packaged in different ways: either bulk in a box filler or in an organised manner using machines with an increasing degree of automation, such as accumulation tables like tray loaders, tray packers, and tray packers with stackers.

The workflow: precision at every step

Each machine undergoes rigorous testing once assembled.
For example, EBM machines are assembled in 13 dedicated areas. The assembly process involves joining the front and back parts midway through, followed by the addition of protections and carters. After assembly, each EBM machine undergoes a series of checks and adjustments, and once these have been passed, the machine is ready to be disassembled, packaged and shipped to the destination plant.

A look to the future: continuous innovation

  • Seriomac is collaborating with R&D technicians and plant operators to develop machines using SBM (Stretch Blow Moulding) technology. We hope this ambitious goal will lead to excellent results in the near future.
  • New packaging solutions: The R&D team is studying methods to package the bottles without using standard trays, further optimising the processes.

Seriomac is a perfect example of how in-house ingenuity and precision allow us to remain at the forefront of our industry.

The technological heart of moulds in Serioplast Group.

Founded in 2016, Seriomould is the Serioplast Group’s answer to the need for responsiveness, flexibility and supply chain integration in the world of moulds. But what exactly does Seriomould do? It deals with the construction, maintenance and supply of spare parts for extrusion moulds – which account for the largest share of their operations – as well as stretch and blow moulding moulds, for all the Group’s entities.

They are a highly advanced machine shop, equipped with no less than 25 CNC (Computer Numerical Control) and conventional machines, including 3- and 5-axis milling machines, lathes, grinders, drills, die-sinking and sandblasting machines. Technicians and employees work tirelessly, producing between 40 and 60 moulds per year: since 2016 it has produced around 400 industrial moulds and 200 pilot moulds to globally support all our plants!

Cross-functional collaboration: Design is managed by the Technical Department and, once finalised, each mould is tested in the company’s Pilot plant to optimise both geometry and the production cycle. Only after this critical stage is it dispatched to the Group’s various production sites for bottle-blowing.

A mould set is composed of two ‘twin’ moulds: they are called right and left carriage, and are assembled together with the rest of the equipment on Seriomac’s shuttle machines to work simultaneously and optimise production times.

A look to the future: continuous innovation

Seriomould is committed to continuous improvement in its production processes, often working in close collaboration with Seriomac.

Its versatility is evident in its workshop, which manufactures elements for moulds and machines across the board. Additionally, Seriomould acts as a crucial partner by producing specific components required for special testing.
